Governor Rendell confirmed just last week that there will only be 100 layoffs in state government. That is good news considering original estimates were in the thousands. Jobs are saved, for now, in part due to the expected stimulus money that will be used to cover the shortfall. Combine that with the 5,000 current employees who will be retiring this year along with about 600 open positions that will not be filled and the state budget for this year at least is balanced. Rendell did not say which...
